BOYLE CO. MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND
Let's Take a Little Ride
Some of you may or may not know me, but my name is Lucas Sledge, and I will be teaching 5th - 8th grade band at Boyle County Middle School. It's a very exciting time for me. I hope everybody involved is excited as well.
As the year moves on, this site will be used to show off pictures and recordings, report great news, and provide dates for events. It will offer assessments, helpful links and lessons that will be greatly beneficial to the success of the band and your musical education.

Since I have no pictures, recordings, or news at this moment; just sit right back, I'll tell you how I became director in a town called ..... Danville!
I grew up in Scottsville, in Allen County. Many people from Boyle County should be familiar with the town. The first time AC-S ever made it to a state championship game in football, Boyle Co. had to win.
Scottsville is the home of the Dollar General Store. It's always one of the first things I tell people about my home town.
I went through the Allen Co.-Scottsville school system. It is important that you always use both names. Here, I ran two years of cross country and played a year of basketball. Baseball was my main sport where I was a four year letterman (.401 batting average my senior year). Click on the link below to see my stats. I of course played in the band and made All-State Band on Tuba my senior year. That was where I decided I wanted to become a music teacher.
I attended WKU and majored in Music Education. At Western, I was a member of the concert band and the Big Red Marching Band. I got really good at the tuba.
I got my first teaching job in 2004 here in Boyle County. I started two weeks into the school year. Crazy circumstances!
I met my wife, Amy, in 2007. She is awesome, and I love her very much!
Here is my buddy, Cal. He is one lucky pound dog. Amy and I named him after John Calipari, because we got him right after UK named him head coach. I'm not ashamed to say he is one of the most important things in the world to Amy and me.
Hobbies I enjoy as often as possible are minimalist camping and hiking. I can get ready to camp with a 40 pound pack in 10 minutes, then camp and hike for 4 days at 0 degrees. Here are Cal and me packing up one morning.
I've worked with Boyle County Marching Band since 2005. Here are the plaques I've received at the end of each season. They are some of my most prized possessions. They hang in my home office, and I get to look at them everyday.
